Senator McCain will get my vote.

I wanted to take this opportunity to pass on a recent letter to the editor I read in the Topeka Capital Journal. It helped me soften my own hard opinion about Senator McCain.

Senator McCain will not only get my vote because he's not Obama, he will get it because he's a decent, honorable man. I've recently seen in him the ability to adapt to more conservative positions in the effort to meet current hard edged realities head on. As he does so, I would like to encourage others to reconsider Senator McCain with his recent improvements in mind. As opposed to Obama, this historical and existential election is too important for us to lose over the real but infinitely smaller disagreements we have with our candidate.
In recent times I have had a lot of complaints with McCain, and I have blogged about them to the displeasure of Adam C and others here.
The funny thing is that the complaints the Ds have with McCain are funny and completely contrary to my complaints. Today Obama attacked McCain for being part of the problem since he has served in Congress for over 26 years as a Republican. Well here's the deal Sen. Obama. For the most recent of those years McCain has reached across the aisle and embraced Ds like Feingold, Kennedy, and Kerry. He's been with the Ds more than I appreciate Sen. Obama. So don't even try to convince me how he is exhibit A of the problem of those monolithic Rs over the course of 26 years.
Oh, and by the way Sen. Obama he does have A RECORD that shows that he worked with the Ds, and the only thing we have that you can work with the Rs is your word? pffft
McCain will get my vote too, and no honeymoon period from criticism from me if he happens to win.

Over on wsjreader's blog "Newsweek Poll: Obama 44, McCain 41" - one of the commenters, FrankLucia, has a link to a USNews article on McCain's 1973 first person POW story. It's very long, but a very good read. I think you would like it.
I'm a frequent RedState reader, but an infrequent commenter. I'm not up to speed on inserting links - it's that old dog, new tricks thing. Not in the mood to learn a new trick tonight.
